What is extradition?
Extradition is a legal procedure that involves the transfer of a person guilty or accused of committing a crime by one State to another at the request of the latter for criminal prosecution or the execution of a sentence that has entered into legal force.
Article 13.3 of the Spanish Constitution stipulates that extradition can only be carried out on the basis of a relevant international treaty or law and subject to the principle of reciprocity.
